Pole dance is for everyone, wherever you are at with your level of strength, flexibility, or your shape. Everyone has different weaknesses and forces, and as a plus size dancer with almost no sportive background, I faced challenges that my thinner friends didn’t experience.
Let’s cover those 10 things I would have loved to know before I started as a plus size pole dancer, although it never prevented those badass pole dancers below to kill it!
There is no way you could have missed the #metoo campaign going on on social media. It’s a harrowing feeling to see it spread like wildfire, the millions of testimonies coming into light being only the tip of the ugly iceberg. It touches every stratum of society, infects work, school, leisure, home. Nowhere is safe. Not even the pole world, especially not the pole world.
That’s why I’m getting serious today. No stupid joke, no Top 10, just raw thoughts on why we should care more about pole dance’s future than its origins, where pole is going instead of still trying to give it a politically correct past. (more…)

It’s that time of the year again! Back to work, back to school, and of course, back to pole! I’m pretty sure you didn’t stop practicing during holidays, but with the start of the new school year comes the oh-so-familiar feeling of wanting to start fresh.
Pole is no exception (and admit it, you’re way more excited about your subscription to a new term at your pole studio than going back to uni or the office!), and here you are, itching to get new polewear, new shoes, and lots more!
But… money! It still doesn’t grow on trees, pole is expensive, and every poler is after a good deal.

As pole dancers we are always after the one thing that will help us improve our skills, and good news! If there’s one thing that works in that area, it’s cross training!
Yes, pole dance is a very complete activity that works every muscle group, but it’s not always about that: a different way to sollicitate your muscles can all at once help you go past that plateau you’ve been hitting for weeks, develop new muscle memory, and, depending on the type of exercise you decide to add to your weekly schedule, it can even inspire your style as a dancer!

Who’s never had the oh so cliché reaction from a guy as soon as you tell him you pole dance? Y’know, the sort of eye-popping-wolf-panting response you might see in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
Let’s face it, while pole dancing has made a breakthrough in mainstream fitness, it’s still a niche activity, and some guys still have the impression of the good old ‘smoking’ hot exotic dancer ready to give a lap dance’ as soon as they hear about it.
It’s not a problem to be associated with an exotic dancer (they’re awesome and so badass!!), but it’s a little unnerving to suddenly be seen as fair game by your brand new date when really, it’s got nothing to do with that.
Being confident, sexually free, and dancing around a pole, whatever reason we’re doing it for (fitness, show, earning money, it doesn’t matter!) does not mean you’re going to get it tonight babe! It’s about US, not YOU!

From top to bottom of the room, nothing can resist a heel kick or head bump from a thrashing pole session, and The Unicorn has decided to make a special service for those poor objects that died on the path of Polezilla!
